The Appalachian Trail

Finally, we hiked a portion of Appalachian Trail. Well, it was a very small portion but at least I got a taste of it. The photo is of me (and canines) with one of the trail markers. We did a loop around Loft Mountain that took a couple of hours. I read Bill Bryson's book on the Trail many years ago and was always intrigued. At this point in my life I will never hike the complete trail but I would like to do some other portions of it some time. On this visit to Shenandoah the summer flowers were out and the bees were buzzing like crazy. Huge bees and gorgeous butterflys everywhere. We also experienced a lot of rain storms with Hurricane Bill off the coast but that was fine - it is nice to have an RV and not a wet tent. We noticed that the tent campers around us were doing a lot of road trips particularly if they had kids!

Hard to believe that August is almost over...and summer as well. It is so hot these days that I cannot imagine a cool autumn day but I do look forward to it.
