Mets Babes

Whenever I think happy thoughts, I often think of my Mets Babes group we have online at Kris Carr's "Crazy Sexy Cancer/Crazy Sexy Life" web site. I cannot imagine a better, more supportive and optimistic group for people. I participate in a few boards now and then, but this one is the best.

In spite of our many scattered geographic locations, a few of us managed to get together, thanks to Holly and Carrie who worked on the plans. And in the end it was only Holly since Carrie had a family emergency and was not able to participate.

What a weekend it was! Holly's sister has a lovely vacation home on Keuka Lake in the upstate NY finger lakes area. It was just gorgeous and comfortable and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Holly is the redhead on the left from Rochester NY. Then yours truly wearing my favorite tee shirt hand crafted by my sister, Alice. Next is Pilar who teaches Spanish at a college in Connecticut and is originally from Grenada, Spain. Lasty (but not leastly!) is my dear friend Barbara from Montreal and Vermont. She is Canadian but spends half the year at her lovely home in Vermont.

The weekend went by fast! Mostly we talked and exchanged tips. Pilar and Holly did some extraordinary cooking and cooking demos. Yes, we ate rather well including a trip to a nearby vineyard restaurant. Also played Bingo and won some prizes donated by all. We even did most of the game in Spanish (called by Pilar) and it was fun trying to remember my numbers from 5th grade Spanish! Uno, dos, tres..... and beyond!

The final hoorah was a dinner on Sunday which included Richard and Pilar's husband Shawn. It ended with the Beltane full moon rising over Keuka Lake and Barbara playing guitar and singing beautiful sad songs that will stick with me forever. I think we all felt as if we had known each other for a long time and I guess indeed we have in the virtual world. I just realized that I have hardly mentioned the disease that plagues us. It is a brave world we all live in and we never know what will befall us, but we have found strength in one another. It is a wonderful gift.

Thank you, Chuckie. That was a beautiful description of our weekend. I really enjoyed every minute of it. And I particularly like what you said at the end.

You are truly amazing and I feel blessed to have met you in person.
